Multimedia College to do their part for B4B=Kerp fund

latest update:27th June 2011
L to R: Datuk Rocky, Big Dog, Endie Shazlie, Syed Akbar Ali and MMC CEO Khaneeza Khalid
MMC - Multi Media College, a subsidiary of TM had earlier in the month picked up a CSR project to be the focal point of their student body involvement. The CSR project is used as a learning environment by getting the students to understand and work towards a good cause.

CEO Khaneeza Khalid had informed Blog House Malaysia through her getting in touch with our treasurer that the students of MMC had already decided that the B4B=Kerp fund thatwas  kicked off earlier by BHM will be their cause. As such since then, the students have been washing cars to raise funds for B4=Kerp.

Today, in a simple get together at the MMC premises, a cheque of RM2,478.00 was handed over to Kerp in the presence of Blog House Committee members. BHM Adviser Datuk Rocky had earlier thanked the students of MMC on their achievement and contribution.

Kerp was also invited to give a motivational talk to the students. During lunch another surprise was in for Kerp, when Datuk Rocky handed over a personal cheque to him for RM5,000.00 The amount was a collective contribution by Datuk Rocky, Datuk Nuraina, Firdaus Abdullah and Tony Yew.

That brought the amount for the B4B=Kerp so far to RM25,307.34.
We wish Kerp and Molee all the best in their challenging times ahead.

Thanks to BHM's efforts, and much to Treasurer Zakhir Mohamed's help, the Multimedia College has embarked on a fund raiser to chip in to the already growing B4B=Kerp fund.

BHM received a note from Zakhir informing us that the college has started a car wash fund which was manned by their students in their CSR programme which would culminate into a cheque handing over ceremony to Kerp. Kerp who was informed of the CSR programme by Multimedia College CEO Khaneeza Khalid will also be addressing the students on his plight and how it can help motivate the students who are mostly doing their diplomas there.

The event will be held on 27th of June at the Multimedia College on Jalan Semarak, KL from 11.00am to 2.00 pm.

Thanks to all who are contributing to this one way or another.

Latest from Kerp

Thanks to donor, Encik Shamsul Anuar for the latest contribution, and everyone who have parted their hard-earned money to help both my wife and I in going through this ordeal with some ease.

She has started taking the very costly chemo drug, which can fetch up to a whopping RM12k a month, and this medication has to be taken for life!

The drug by the way is called Sunitinib, or commonly known as Sutent.  Feel free to google it up.

My wife’s taking it well however, to much of our surprise. Physically she feels much stronger but inevitably at times the pain/side effects from the drug can really floor her.

For now things are looking slightly up. Let’s hope the positivity will climb up to a few notches more. Looking at how Molee’s been faring so far, I’m optimistic it will.

THANK YOU.

EXCO, Blog House Malaysia

The following is a message from Kerp (2nd June 2011)....
"Dear Blog House Malaysia,

Molee and I will be away in her hometown Kuala Selangor for about one week beginning tomorrow (Thursday). It’s going to be the first time going back to her parents’ home since she was diagnosed and I really hope with the change of environment it will speed up her recuperation process.

For now she’s on a new set of medication prescribed by the oncologist, and the side effects apparently didn’t wait for long to kick in. Nonetheless she was mentally prepared but at times her body simply couldn’t take that much.

It has been a tough few months for us but I will never abandon my pledge to always give the best for her since day 1. This wouldn’t be possible without the support we get from all you wonderful people who have contributed financial assistance, prayers and words of encouragement. All your support has given Molee the extra strength to go through this ordeal fighting.

THANK YOU.

Kerp

p/s – to all you wonderful peeps @ BHM, huge thanks for all your effort in making this on-going  B4B campaign a success. So far it has certainly helped in many ways. Love you guys much!
."

Godspeed, Kerp.

Blog House Launches B4B=KERP fund

Bloggers for Blogger
President of Blog House Malaysia Syed Akbar Ali handing over the contribution
to Kerp at his apartment following a short visit on 18 May 2011

UPDATE: 25 May 2011, 1518hrs - The Fund has now reached RM15,589.34 with the latest contribution from a reader contributing a total of RM500.00 Thank you to Nur Azrina Abdul Samad (for those wishing anonymity, please include in your email that no acknowledgment is required. Thank you for all your kind words and contributions)

Since its inception, Blog House Malaysia has been fortunate enough to have corporate sponsors partnering us, and achieving the unimaginable of organizing the 1st MARBC isn’t something we want to rest on.

In fact, the 1st MARBC enabled us to get in touch with some bloggers by inviting them as guest of Blog House to the event. Most tuned up without hesitation. In fact, almost all those whom we invited turned up. Some just could not.

You see, its not that he did not want to come, just that he could not. It’s not because of his physical disability.

When Rocky invited Blogger Kerp , or Danny as some who are more personal with him would call, he spent a few minutes explaining why he would love to but couldn’t. The last time Kerp met up with Rocky was when he was invited as a guest by Celcom in the Blackberry Storm launch at the Sepang F1 circuit, an event which Kerp enjoyed very much. He told so.

But this time it was different. With his blessing, we would like to share his story.

Kerp is a wheelchair bound blogger, and he has been actively writing both in his blog and a former columnist with the Malay Mail. His writing was an eye opener to his readers.

He has been blogging actively since 2007, and he last blogged in March 2010. You see, he not only had to overcome challenges to himself as a physically challenged person but also to something that we take for granted, love.

After 11 years of courtship, he finally took on a wife in Molee, a girl from Kuala Selangor whom he had shared many good and bad times with. This was in March 2010, so his hiatus from blogging is a well reasoned one.

In his words ‘…To me it  was the best thing ever happened my entire life. And it still does and i believe forever it shall be. But good things at some point will come to an end,  or hopefully temporarily. When we thought our beautiful marriage life can only get better, another tragedy struck, this time to Molee, my dear wife. She was diagnosed with kidney cancer and as i write this the dreadful bad cells have spread to her lower vertebra, which means a radiation treatment is compulsorily required….’

Blog House Malaysia, with Kerp’s family’s blessing is now more than ever ready to launch our B4B fund, starting with Kerp.

We are not certain how far our initiative will go, but one thing for sure is that by doing so, we know that our blogger friend Kerp will have something less to worry about.

We hope that you will be able to do the same, by reflecting this post on your blog and contributing in your own way to help ease Kerp’s burden.

To kick off the B4B=KERP fund, Blog House Malaysia will start by contributing RM10,000.00 to it, and hope that you can help carry the posting and also contribute if you can. We would also like to extend our very best wishes and a quick recovery to both Kerp and Molee.

You can do your part by;
  1. Carrying a similar post reflective of this posting
  2. Banking in your contribution to MAYBANK - acc No1642 5846 2732 AHMAD DANIEL SHAH B SHARANI.
  3. Sending an email on your contribution and amount to mybloghouse@gmail.com so that we can update Kerp of your contribution (and keeping a countmeter as well!)
  4. As we are aware that some people may take advantage of the situation, always point your posting links back to www.bloghousemalaysia.com website
God Bless.

Inaugural MARBC 2011 - a success that surprises even us

We at Blog House Malaysia are still trying to get over the success we have achieved for the 1st Malaysian-Asean Regional Bloggers Conference (MARBC, pronounced  "ma-back") held over the weekend of 23rd and 24th April 2011. It's a good feeling. We might as well enjoy it while it lasts. Anyway, during the initial conception of the conference, we agreed that we would set out to achieve 3 things. First, to invite the Statesman Blogger and former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be the patron of Blog House. Second, to seek the presence of the Prime Minister Dato' Sri Najib Tun Razak to officiate its opening and give us his Keynote Address. Third, to invite as many fellow local and Asean Bloggers to come partake of the occasion and share with us their experiences, successes and challenges. Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised at the outcome. They all agreed to come and grace us with their presence and we had a great time enjoying ourselves. And as they say, the rest is history. But, lest we forget, the conference would not have been as great a success if not for the generosity of our sponsors to whom we are grateful.

For more on what transpired at the conference, please click HERE. The following are pictures of some of the highlights of MARBC 2011.

Membership is now open!

Blog House Malaysia is pleased to announce that membership to BHM is now open.

FAQs: What do I get for being a member with BHM?
In light of numerous cases of investigation by authorities as well as bloggers being charged, BHM aims to arm it's members with the right information to prevent these cases from repeating.
Apart from holding workshops and forums in the future, BHM also aims to provide it's members with possible legal support within it's network of members.

This is in addition of other workshops that can help members explore the realms of technology and how they can improve on their blogging skills.

Numerous organisations and corporations have approached the association to help build a closer rapport with bloggers in general. Here, BHM aims to hold regular industry themed meetings with bloggers so that bloggers can access these corporations and their leaders directly to probe and tackle current issues and feedback to these organisations directly, instead of hearsay, a problem most bloggers encounter currently.

In short BHM aims to bridge that gap that exist between organisations and bloggers, and hopefully enable it's members to elevate their blogs to a more credible platform straight from the source.

FAQ: Is membership open to all bloggers?
